Statement of Beliefs

Articles of Faith

1.  God - There is only one true and living God, an infinitely perfect Spirit.  He exists eternally in three persons:  The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

2.  The Father - God the Father is above all the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  By His grace, all who place faith in Jesus Christ become His adopted children.

3.  The Son - The Son, who lived upon this earth as Jesus Christ, is true God and became true man.  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.  He died upon the cross, the just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice.  All who place faith in Him are justified by His shed blood.  He arose from the dead according to the scriptures.  He is now at the Father's right hand as our advocate and our great high priest.

4.  The Holy Spirit - The Holy Spirit is a divine person sent to convince the world of sin, of righteousness, of judgment, and of salvation.  Furthermore, the Holy Spirit indwells, guides, teaches, and empowers Christ's followers for Kingdom service.

5.  The Scriptures - The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for humanity's salvation. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice.

6.  Humanity - The human race was originally created in the image and likeness of God.  Both man and woman fell through disobedience and thereby brought upon themselves and their descendants physical and spiritual death.  Thus, every human is born with a sinful nature, is separated from God, is fully deserving of eternal punishment in hell, and can be saved only through Jesus Christ's work of atonement.

7.  Salvation - Salvation has been provided to humanity through Jesus Christ.  All who repent and place faith in Him are reborn through the Holy Spirit, immediately receive the Holy Spirit, inherit eternal life, and become God's children.  Those saved undergo a process of sanctification throughout their entire lives, during which they are conformed more and more in the holiness of Christ's image.  Furthermore, true salvation, being a divine work, can be neither earned nor annulled by human action.

8.  The Universal Church - The Church comprises all who place faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, obtain redemption through His blood, and receive new birth through the Holy Spirit.  Christ is the head of the church and has commissioned her to go into the entire world, to preach His gospel, and to make disciples of all nations.

9.  The Local Church - The local church is a body of believers in Christ, who are joined together for worship, for instruction through God's word, for prayer, fellowship, evangelism, ministry, and the observance of Baptism and the Lord's Supper.

10.  The Ordinances - Christian baptism is the believer's immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Salvation cannot be obtained through the waters of baptism.  Rather, baptism is an obedient act in which the believer affirms faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior and enters the privilege of church membership.  The Lord's Supper is the mutual commemoration among believers of Christ's dying love as demonstrated on the night in which he was betrayed.  Reserved wholly for believers, all who participate must subject themselves to solemn self-examination to avoid partaking of the elements unworthily.

11.  Bodily Resurrection and Eternal Destinies - There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto eternal life with God in heaven; for the latter, a resurrection unto eternal judgment in hell.

12.  Christ's Return - The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent and will be personal and visible.  This is the believer's blessed hope, and it is a vital truth and an incentive to holy living and faithful service.
